Upon the request of the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the Department of Health (DOH) studied and asked experts to construct simplified restrictions for arriving passengers.
Health department secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire promoted more convenient quarantine requirements for travelers abroad. Vergeire said that it is possible to completely remove the regulations since there are ‘safeguards’ and ‘layers of protection as a control.
Moreover, Presidential Adviser Joey Conception agreed to the initiative to benefit the airline and travel industry.
Conception requested to remove the RT-PCR test requirement and lengthy hotel quarantines. He also suggested having a negative antigen test taken 24 hours before departure and conducting quarantine at home.
As of now, IATF and DOH have been implementing 7- and 10-day isolation periods for COVID-19 positive vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, respectively. Individuals under A1, A2, and A3 categories are prioritized for immediate medication within five days of experiencing symptoms.
