NCAA: Mapua Cardinals extend their winning streak as they beat the Arellano Chiefs last October 18

The Mapua Cardinals solidified their position in the first round of the NCAA Season 99 Men’s Basketball campaign. With a score of 79-65, the Mapua Cardinals improved to 7-1, with five wins in a row, while the Arellano Chiefs slipped to 1-7.


The Chiefs managed to tie with the Cardinals with 26 halfway through the second quarter; however, the Cardinals started shooting 12 straight points, allowing the Intramuros squad to make a huge lead by 25 points in the second half, 63-38. This advantage was enough to seal the Cardinals in the first seed of the standings in the first round of the NCAA Season 99.


Team captain Warren Bonifacio cleared the way for the Cardinals with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block. JC Recto and Kobe Dalisay also pitched in 12 points each. Clint Escamis also gave an all-around performance in the match, giving the Cardinals nine points, nine rebounds, five assists, and five steals.


Lars Sunga scored 16 points and seven rebounds for the Chiefs, together with Danielle Mallari with 10 points and five rebounds.


The Mapua Cardinals aim to end their impressive first-round campaign on a high note as they take on the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA’s Perpetual Altas at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, at the Filoil Flying V Arena. The Arellano Chiefs then face the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers.
