PH team takes home gold and two silver medals in Asian Youth Para Games



The Philippine team bagged three medals in the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games, which are now taking place in Manama, Bahrain.

The Philippine team finishes strong with a gold medal in swimming, a silver medal in athletics, and another silver for table tennis.


Ronn Russel Mitra bagged the second spot in the 400-meter T20 event in Para Athletics with a record of 54.65. He is behind Korea who placed first, and ahead of Thailand who placed third.

Table tennis player, Linard Sultan, won silver in the men's singles Class 8 event. He defeated Hong Kong's Yoho Lau in the semifinals but lost to Iran's Seyed Hosseinipour.

The Philippines sent 20 athletes to represent the country in the event, which will run until December 6. The three medals brought home surpassed the country’s only one bronze medal last 2017 Asian Youth Para Games held in Dubai.

This year’s Para Games has participated by almost 800 athletes from over 30 countries. The sports that have competed are athletics, badminton, boccia, goalball, taekwondo, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball.
