(THE JPISCE-LNM) SinCErely Self: Love Letters to the Fighter Within last July 23, 2023

The Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Lungsod ng Maynila Chapter (JPICE-LNM) has held its Mental Health Webinar 2023 entitled SinCErely Self: Love Letters to the Fighter Within last July 23, 2023 via Facebook live tackling the importance of checking oneself amidst the challenging and tough times that everybody is going through every day. This is in line with the celebration of the Mental Health Month awareness in the country to solidify the advocacy in supporting and creating a mentally healthy community.

The conversation of the whole webinar was shaped through the insights and guidance of the two honorable speakers, Ms. Sean Nicole Yap, an apprentice at the Integrated Professional Counselors Association of the Philippines and Ms. Cassandra Kaye Florentino, a life coach and guidance counselor.

Ms. Yap centered her talk about the quote of Hans Selye which he stated that “It is not stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it.” She emphasized that we need to find what’s work for us in dealing with our stress and in not forgetting the value of self-care.

Meanwhile, Ms. Florentino left with a heart piercing quote that “Taking care of yourself doesn’t mean me first, it means me too.” She talked about the stigma circling around people experiencing mental health issues and how you will be able to get through with all of the mental challenges that you are experiencing. She elaborated more the quote mentioned above that you cannot be able to give what you haven’t received in the first place, that its okay to do it for yourself first.

The JPICE-LNM has been doing this for two consecutive years to alleviate the cases of mental health issues happening not just within the civil engineering student’s community in Manila but in support to all people, in all walks of life. In addition, the webinar’s theme had given a way for the participants to share their love letters of encouragement and personal thoughts with regards to themselves or even to other people facing mental health problems. It is JPICE-LNM’s message and goal to remind everyone to prioritize taking care of one’s mental and holistic health because self-care is never selfish. #SinCErelySelf2023
